ELT365 · Day 180 — Comprehension tasks that teach

June 24, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — A good comprehension task helps learners understand; a bad one just tests whether they already did. Aim for tasks that guide attention and can be checked in pairs, not exam-style interrogations.

Example — "Discuss with a partner why he refused" teaches; "answer ten questions alone" only measures.

Try — Rewrite one comprehension question so learners solve it in pairs and must point to the line that proves their answer.
