ELT365 · Day 175 — Gap-Fill from Audio: Lighter Than Dictation

July 7, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — A listening gap-fill focuses attention on specific language points — function words, collocations, key content. It is lighter than full dictation but heavier than a gist task.

Example — A transcript with every fifth word removed directs learners to process grammar and collocational patterns, not just general meaning.

Try — Remove 8 words from a 60-word transcript, targeting function words and strong collocations. Play twice. Check together. Discuss why each word fits.
