ELT365 · Day 157 — Pre-listening activities
Idea — Pre-listening sets context, activates schema, and pre-teaches any vocabulary that would block comprehension. Done well, it means learners arrive at the audio ready to process meaning, not decode words.
Example — Before a podcast on urban farming, show a photo and elicit three words learners already know. That takes two minutes and removes three blockers.
Try — For your next listening lesson, identify the one vocabulary item that will block most learners. Pre-teach it with a concept-checking question, not a dictionary definition.
