ELT365 · D178 — Extensive reading programs
Idea — Extensive reading programs give students access to large quantities of level-appropriate text to read independently, for pleasure, and without analysis.
Example — Drop Everything And Read (DEAR): 10 minutes per class of free-choice reading at personal level. Nation’s research points to strong vocabulary gains over time.
Try — Calculate how many words a B1 student reads if they read 10 pages daily for one year. Then argue to yourself why this is worth ten minutes of class time.
