Idea — Detailed questions direct learners to specific parts of the text. They should require reading, not background knowledge. Reference the text: where is the evidence?
Example — ‘In paragraph 2, what reason does the author give for the increase?’ Learner reads, locates, extracts.
Try — Write three detailed comprehension questions for a text you teach. Test them: can each be answered only from the text, not from world knowledge?
