ELT365 · D166 — What makes a good classroom listening text

July 9, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — A good classroom listening text has a clear communicative purpose, sounds natural (not over-scripted), and is at a reachable level for the task set.

Example — A monologue read from a script sounds different from a spontaneous interview: the hesitations, repairs, and overlaps of real speech are absent.

Try — Evaluate your last listening text against three questions: was its purpose clear, did it sound natural, and did the level match the task?
