📖 From the teacher’s desk: When people ask me where I’m from, I never know where to start — born in Bangladesh, grown up in Australia, now living in La Réunion. I’ve learned that describing your hometown tells people a great deal about who you are. In my classes in Brittany, this topic always produced the richest conversations among students from many different backgrounds.
🎯 By the end of this lesson, you can: describe where you are from and what your hometown is like.
🔥 Warm Up (1 min)
Answer quickly: Where are you from? What’s one word that describes it? (e.g., “busy,” “beautiful,” “cold,” “friendly”)
📖 Learn It (2 min)
Useful phrases for describing your hometown:
📍 “I’m from [place], which is in [country/region].”
🏙️ “It’s a [big / small / coastal / mountainous / historic] city.”
🎯 “It’s famous for its [food / festivals / architecture / beaches].”
💚 “What I love about it is…”
😅 “The only downside is…”
✏️ Try It (2 min)
Write a paragraph (5–7 sentences) about your hometown:
- Where it is
- What type of place it is (size, geography)
- What it’s famous for
- What you love (and one negative!)
Speaking task: Tell a partner about your hometown for 1 minute without stopping. Use the phrases above as a guide.
