Idea — An information gap exists when two learners have different pieces of information and must communicate to complete a task. It creates genuine communicative purpose — learners need each other, not just a language structure.
Example — Student A has a map with hotels; Student B has a map with restaurants. Together they plan a route. Neither can complete the task without the other.
Try — Design one information-gap task for your current unit. Check: does each learner genuinely need what the other has? If both students could complete it alone, the gap doesn’t exist.
