Idea — Authentic recordings expose learners to real spoken English — speed, overlaps, ellipsis. Graded recordings are clear but artificial. Neither is always right; choose by aim and level.
Example — A graded recording at B1 uses full sentences and careful pacing. An authentic interview at the same level trips learners with ‘gonna,’ false starts, and mumbled endings.
Try — Listen to 20 seconds of a graded and an authentic recording on the same topic. List the differences. Which would you use for a gist task? Which for awareness of natural speech?
