ELT365 · Day 160 — Authentic Audio vs Graded Recordings

📚60-Day ELT Masterclass — This post is part of an ongoing series. View full index →

Idea — Authentic audio (podcasts, broadcasts, real conversations) exposes learners to natural speech rate and connected speech. Graded recordings control input for clarity. Neither is always right.

Example — A1 learners need graded input to build confidence. B2 learners benefit from authentic material to close the gap with real-world listening.

Try — Next time you choose a listening, ask: is the challenge from the language, the task, or the speech rate? Only the first two are pedagogically useful.
