ELT365 · Day 170 — Ordering tasks — reconstructing a text
Idea — Ordering tasks ask learners to arrange jumbled sentences or paragraphs into the original sequence. They train awareness of discourse: cohesive devices, logical flow, and topic development.
Example — Five sentences from an argument cut up and shuffled. Learners sequence them, using connectors like ‘However,’ ‘As a result,’ and ‘In contrast’ as guides.
Try — Cut a three-paragraph text into six sentences. Give learners the first sentence as an anchor. Time them re-ordering the rest. Debrief: what words told you what came next?
